HOC C&S Lest We Forget...

I thought I would combine the photo challenge from House of Cards today with a very special celebration...Remembrance Day!

How fitting is it that the photo offers such perfect Poppies for a date that has so much significance.  My father is a WWII Naval Vet and I could not be more proud of him and all of the other men and women past and present serving our country.

The poppy was printed onto CS and then painted with markers.  Then I fussy cut it out and adhered it with a dimensional.  For the card base I spritzed on Old Olive and then using the splatters from French Foliage I added in a few of those.  Finally I use the swirls from Everything Eleanor and the sentiment from Warmest Wishes to complete this Clean and Simple card. 

This card is for you Dad.  Thank you so much for contributing to our countries freedom!

TST #140

About a month ago CherylAnn, our leader over at Try Stampin on Tuesday, came up with a plan to have the Designers split into two teams.  Instead of us posting on a weekly basis she decided to go with  every other week.  Even with this new plan I am really having a hard time getting my act together to get my post done on time.  That four letter "WORK" keeps getting in the way, along with having to put more and more time into looking after my Dad.  I hope that this will change but I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel right now.

This week the sketch was nice and simple.

But even with it being simple I managed to screw it up.  I put my whole card together and then realized that I had placed the items on upside down.  Good thing it was the type of card that could work the other way.

You can see here were I goofed and put the accents on the wrong way.

TST #129

Time once again for Try Stampin on Tuesday.  Today we have a sketch for you that offers a lot of suggestions.  

When I first saw this sketch I thought iphone.  You could certainly make a great tween card using the icons for the iphones.  However I needed a card for my daughter to give to her boyfriend. Since her recent surgery on her hand she has been unable to do much on her own because it is her right hand.  So now we have a Sergeant in the army not only preparing all the meals and cleaning the house he is now in charge of hair duty.  Trust me she says he does a much better job defending our country than simple pony tail duty.  We love him anyway!

Using a black grey and white theme I started by cutting out the grey centre piece and running it through the Diamond Plate embossing folder.  Then with simple DSP I ran that through the Gadget Gears die.  I had a piece of DSP from the Dollar Store that had a chevron and the hand on the same piece so I cut those out.  I stamped the white CS using the Clockworks stamp and then using my spritzing tool I spritzed the entire card.

The cut outs were layered onto the card using dimensionals and then stamped out the sentiment and used the Round Tab punch to cut it out.  I reinserted this cut out one again and made a second punch to make the tab a little smaller.  Then I stamped out the "11" on a separate piece of CS.

I added three smaller cogs in the upper right corner along with a flag - kind of a "I surrender" touch just for my daughter.  She thinks that she can do it all but has quickly found out that through all of this she needs her family around her to help her get through it.  

I am also happy to report that her Teachers at College have gone to bat for her (bad choice of words since she broke her thumb playing baseball) and the Dean will allow her to continue so that she will be able to complete her Dental Hygiene studies on time.  Dedication and good work ethics have certainly paid off for her and her Teachers have taken this into consideration when fighting for her.  Very proud of her.

TST #124 Seawall Inspiration

Life has been so busy this past week I just can't seem to find time for myself.  That dreaded four letter word "WORK" keeps getting in the way, but I have to support my addiction to card making!

This week at Try Stampin on Tuesday, our sketch lends itself to so many ideas.

I decided to turn the sketch and make a landscape card in a Clean and Simple form.

While we were in Florida we had the opportunity to collect these seashells just off the seawall from my Brother's place.  Each morning there were several that had washed up and were empty. The one in the picture was one of the smaller ones.  A little bit of scrubbing and they cleaned up well.

 

These days I find the hardest thing is picking my colour combinations.  Here I have used Pacific Point and Old Olive along with Soft Suede. 

I started by creating a mask using Post-its to make my centre piece.  I then sponged in my green and blue.  Once again using the Post-its I masked for my lines.  Opps, forgot to block off my centre masked area so I accidentally spritzed over the area.  Hopefully this will give the illusion of sand.  Works for me anyway!  Then I stamped my shell and freehand I used my marker to finish off the border.  

I know in the sketch there is further embellishment in the corners, but when I tried to place something there it just became too cluttered looking so decided to go without.

TST #115 For a Fellow Artist

It's definitely Birthday month around here.  Today I have made a Birthday Card for a fellow employee who is a fabulous watercolour and acrylic painter.  At Christmas time he blessed each of us with one of his watercolours for our Christmas card.  To show just how special he is  I decided to use the sketch from Try Stampin on Tuesday, to create his card.

As soon as I saw the sketch I immediately saw a painters pallet, brush and piece of art work.  

I used markers to colour the feather and then once I stamped the image I blended in a few more of the colours that I have put onto the painters pallet in the background.  I then spritzed the "canvas" using the spritzer tool.

 

So from one fellow artist to another...Happy Birthday Jon!

Twisted Thursday Challenge - September 27th: "Wheels"

I was scouting out the different challenges available for today to come up with a card for my boss who is celebrating 35 years with the company...however I came across a challenge over at The Outlawz and decided to go in a different direction and create a birthday card for an avid mudder!

The challenge was to create anything but it was to incorporate wheels into the card.  I put a twist on it and decided to go with tire tracks.  This was created using my MDS along with a great image put together by another great card maker, but my brain is fried and I just can't remember her name...sorry!  

I hope you like what I have come up with.  I know it's stretching the "wheels" part a little, but I thought is still worked.

TST #57

When I saw this weeks Try Stampin on Tuesday sketch I knew right away I would be using Lovely as a Tree.

It could be used as a masculine card, but I needed a Thank You for friends who had us over for a sprimp boil while we were in Florida.  I thought it would be just the thing with me being from up north and them from Florida.  No palm trees up north.

I stamped the tree by first loading up the stamp with Daffodil Delight ink and then lightly brushed over the yellow with the Old Olive.  By using the Daffodil Delight first you don't dirty up the pad with the Old Olive.  Always start with your lightest colour when loading up a stamp.

Once I had the card completed I thought it needed just a little bit more so I spritzed it using Chocolate Chip.

TST #48 & Makeover Monday Challenge #9

This weeks challenge over at Try Stampin on Tuesday was an instant choice.  What I mean by that is I am trying to use up scraps that I have already available and only cutting the base of the card (part of my New Years Resolution).  So once I went through my scrap box I came up with this card.  I also came across another challenge over at Paper Crafters Library that I thought this same card fit into.

I already had a top note cut out in Old Olive then I had to choose a card base and second accent colour.  I had ribbon that I found at the Dollar Store that matched the Old Olive and it had flowers on it that looked a lot like those from Fabulous Florets.  From there my accent colours had to be Old Olive and Chocolate Chip.

To put this card together start my spritzing the background of the card base then adhering just over 1/2 of the Top Note.  I stamped the leaves from the Fabulous Florets and then stamped them off two more times for a faded effect. Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip CS 1" wide. With the Old Olive punch using the Scalloped Edge Punch. One side was not enough so I punched the adjacent side as well and then adhered the ribbon down the centre.  Stamp twice on a scrap piece of Whisper White CS and using the largest flower from Fabulous Florets cut them out.  Shap them with a pencil and adhered them together.  Punching a hole in the centre of the flower I took a strip of Chocolate Chip and made a fringe for the stamens of the flower and put it through the hole in the flower to secure it. Glue Dots were used to adhere the flowers to the card front.  Added my brads to the top and DONE!

So proud that I once again used up scraps.

Happy New Year & a New Card

First of all I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  The time comes and goes so fast.  So have you made your New Years Resolutions?  or better still are you still on track or have you broken them  already?  Mine is to try and use what craft products I have on hand before I run out and buy more.

January is a busy month for me with lots of birthdays at work so this first card is one for a co-worker.

Using Whisper White as the base of the card I had a few scraps (New Years Resolution at work) of Basic Black so I used them to make the "ribbon" in the back ground and then used the Daisies #2 Die to add an accent in front of the rosette, finished it off with a swirl from the Sizzix Decorative Flourishes set.  Stamp set used was Happiest Birthday Wishes.  It still looked a little blaw so I spritzed it with the spritzing tool.

Inspirations

I find my inspirations in the strangest places sometimes.  Luckily I had my camera with me when this one came up.

The background was created using the SU MDS program and Extreme Elements.  The nice thing about the MDS is that when you don't have the stamp sets you can modify what is existing on the MDS and Extreme Elements is one of the preloaded stamp sets.

I punched out three small cogs and two large cogs from the SU Cog Punch and adhered them to the front of the cardstock and then stamped the sentiment on the bottom using SU Bring on the Cake.

My latest toy from SU is the Cool Spritzer Tool.  Using my black SU marker I spritzed randomly around the page.
