TST #61 Mistakes Gone Right!

Good morning and thanks for stopping by again today. Once again Jen has come up with a great sketch challenge on Try Stampin on Tuesday.  I hope that you will give it a try.

I knew as soon as I saw this sketch which paper I wanted to use and who my card would be for.  I'm sure it will bring a smile to her face once she sees it.

The background paper has a very soft design to it.  I sponged the edges and then spritzed it with water and crinkled it up.  As an afterthought I shouldn't have spritzed the paper as it didn't turn out in the distressed fashion that I wanted, but I rolled with it and moved on.  I did the same with the smaller piece as well, just to keep the continuity in my mistake!  The flower consists of 3 solid pink and 1 designer paper punched from the Blossom Punch.  A brad was secured in the centre and from there I spritzed each layer, one at a time and scrunched them up to form the flower.  By using the water to spritz and form the flower your flower will become ridged once it dries.

I made a slight stamping boo boo when I was stamping the sentiment and had to turn the paper around so now the boo boo is under the flower.  However because you could still see the boo boo I punched out another flower in Whisper White and adhered it under the ribbon as a base for the scrunched flower to sit on.  Boo boo gone!  No one knows but us.....Shhhh!

Now for the fun part.  How do you put a card with a very stiff flower into an envelop? You punch out a hole in the envelop!  I took my envelop and cut off the back flap. Then I decided where the flower was going to sit on the front of the card and marked it.  Taking my punch I inserted the punch very carefully inside the envelop pouch and punched the hole.  Stamping the front of the card with my French Script and highlighting the opening with my pink ink.

Using the designer paper from the card I cut a flap that I then attached just inside the envelop and rounded the corners and sponged the edges as well.  Now when you insert your card the flower will pop out through the opening and adds a extra touch to both your card and the envelop.

So you see even though I had made a couple of mistakes (in my opinion) the card came out just fine and only we know the truth!

TST #48 & Makeover Monday Challenge #9

This weeks challenge over at Try Stampin on Tuesday was an instant choice.  What I mean by that is I am trying to use up scraps that I have already available and only cutting the base of the card (part of my New Years Resolution).  So once I went through my scrap box I came up with this card.  I also came across another challenge over at Paper Crafters Library that I thought this same card fit into.

I already had a top note cut out in Old Olive then I had to choose a card base and second accent colour.  I had ribbon that I found at the Dollar Store that matched the Old Olive and it had flowers on it that looked a lot like those from Fabulous Florets.  From there my accent colours had to be Old Olive and Chocolate Chip.

To put this card together start my spritzing the background of the card base then adhering just over 1/2 of the Top Note.  I stamped the leaves from the Fabulous Florets and then stamped them off two more times for a faded effect. Cut a piece of Chocolate Chip CS 1" wide. With the Old Olive punch using the Scalloped Edge Punch. One side was not enough so I punched the adjacent side as well and then adhered the ribbon down the centre.  Stamp twice on a scrap piece of Whisper White CS and using the largest flower from Fabulous Florets cut them out.  Shap them with a pencil and adhered them together.  Punching a hole in the centre of the flower I took a strip of Chocolate Chip and made a fringe for the stamens of the flower and put it through the hole in the flower to secure it. Glue Dots were used to adhere the flowers to the card front.  Added my brads to the top and DONE!

So proud that I once again used up scraps.

TST#44

The challenge this week over at Try Stampin on Tuesday was a square card with a diagonal center.


This is what I came up with can you tell what it is just by looking at the card?  If you can't just look to the right!  Can you tell what it is yet?

So first of all I hope that my daughter does not look at my blog for the next week or so because she asked for this book for Christmas and I am pretty sure that Santa is bringing it to her stocking.  Shhhhh!




As with any book you need a bookmark and I like to try and make tags or markers that go with the book cover either matching the colour or the subject.  Here I went with the colours.  Very simple diagonal with a cross over in the back that will hook onto the corner.  Very simple sentiment with STOP..RIGHT..HERE, lets you know exactly where you left off.
